THOMAS JETHRO VERLEYE
Rather unusual at the age of six, Thomas (°1984) was listening to the mid 70’s albums of Angelo Branduardi, an Italian musician known for using patterns from early music, mostly Renaissance and early Baroque. To this day, his preference for melodic music endures, a characteristic he incorporates into his own music. At the age of 11, he started playing guitar in a self-taught manner. With parents who also favored '70-'80s (hard) rock music such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Wishbone Ash, Van Halen, etc., there was no lack of inspiration to improve his guitar skills.
From 2000 until 2009, Thomas was active in several bands (a.o. Guilty as Charged). But as he started a PhD in 'Oceanography - Climatology' in 2008, it became difficult to combine rehearsals and live performances with work and family, resulting in a calmer period from a musical perspective between 2009 and 2013. The death of his father in 2014 made a deep impression on him, which led Thomas to decide to invest more time on things that mattered most to him: family and music. In the same year, Thomas met Guy as he was asked to perform as a stand-in lead guitarist for the band Reject the Sickness. This cooperation resulted in a close friendship and the complementarity of skills formed the basis of a great musical collaboration. In the following years, Thomas worked on several projects and also finalized the songs for the first THRONE OF THORNS album, for which he joined forces with Josey, Guy, Wim and Baruch. In addition to the instrumental parts, the lyrics are at least as important to him, with critical reflection on humanity. |
