WIM ROTTHIER
Coming from a musical family, it didn’t come as a surprise that Wim (°1984) started playing an instrument too. Even though he opted to take up saxophone first, he settled for the piano at age 11. During the first years of classical training, it became apparent that Wim was not the kind of person to blindly play music written on sheet, resulting in a few early compositions.
When entering university in 2002, Wim took a break from classical piano and bought his first keyboard. One year later, he founded his first band, Mordacity, a progressive metal band that would disband and reemerge a few times, before finally pulling the plug on the project in 2018. In 2006, during a time when Mordacity was on a hiatus, Wim joined the heavy metal band Crusader, giving him extensive live experience. The collaboration was short-lived however. In the years to come, Wim played in a few cover bands, notably The Vikings and Purple Faze, a Deep Purple tribute band. Through The Vikings’ lead singer, which is now the lead vocalist of Iron Mask (Mike Slembrouck), Wim got in touch with Thomas, which led to him joining the THRONE OF THORNS adventure. Apart from Throne of Thorns, Wim is currently playing in the cover band Broken Voice. Nowadays, he can also be seen performing with Mildly Spiced Duck, a jazz fusion band that came into life in 2022. |
